After the carpet layouts we got more interested in making a permanent layout with landscaping, catenary and signals.
We got interested in the idea of building something to we could take to trainshows.

Ok, it wasn't always that serious. Since the green tape was down to keep the tracks clean while painting and plastering,
we thought we'd take some of our matchbox cars for a spin.

So we had to paint the mountain in the kitchen after plastering... we tried a few colours before getting it right.

Here Zoe and Avi try placing some rocks that we cast from the 'Woodland Scenics' molds.

Daddy and Bea found the best way to paint the mountain was with "Leopard Spotting" technique using sponges.

Here are the results of painting this way.
.

Then we had to build some model kits. Daddy bought a few old Faller kits from the 1950s off of eBay.

This is one of the first kits that Avi built. Daddy explained it was best to paint the pieces before putting the model together.
What do you think of the effect?

When we finally got our system in good working order we started to bring it to train shows and show other kids how to run it.
Setting things up and adjusting the details takes a lot of preparing.

Here is a close up of a electric E41 train pulling into "Bahnhof Kirchenstadt" with a milk tanker and a banana boxcar.

An 'Opa' shows his grandson how to run the switchboard.

Here the E41 locomotive pulls away from the station.
BTW our Opa assembled this locomotive from a Marklin kit when our Dad was younger than we are now.

One of the things we like to do best is show our set to other kids.
Taking it all down and putting it back in the minivan is a lot of work though!

We can send you images of our T-shirts, and other sundry items... If you are in the Montreal area, we can invite you to our next showing.
