Das Madchenbahn

The Story of our Carpetbahn (aka Carpet Layouts) and how we got started.

A short history in pictures of who we are as the "Mädchenbahn" girls... That's three out of the four of us girls a few years ago in the picture above.
First we began by discovering that Daddy had trains in on old stream trunk at Oma's house.
He was about to sell them on Ebay but we insisted that he set it up at least once and show us. The rest shows some of the ongoing tale.

Daddy showed us a few books with model train set layouts and then asked us to make a few drawings.
Here is one of them by a younger sister. We liked it... and then things grew.
Bea's Layout Plan

Dad found a few more trains at the local flea market that he took apart and rebuilt so we could run them. Here is the body of an FS Italian electric train.
You can see the pantographs on the top that pick up the electricity from the catenary.... and a couple of curious photobombing girls.

We started to build some layouts that other fans of Märklin trains call a "carpetbahn".

A few friendly train races and some smiling faces with smiling trains!

We decided to call our little train world the "Mädchenbahn", which means 'Girl's Railway' in German.

Something about watching the trains close up makes me feel calm, says Maddy.

Zoe likes to examine the trains as the pass as well.

It soon becomes a spaghetti network on the floor.... this is when we started to think about building something more permanent... You can see the next chapter here.

Contact us about further information and you can ask about the T-shirts we sell to help fund our projects and education. We can send you images of our T-shirts, and other items... If you are in the Montreal area, we can invite you to our next showing.

We welcome any feedback or suggestions. Thank you!
