The Story of our Carpetbahn (aka Carpet Layouts) and how we got started.
Daddy showed us a few books with model train set layouts and then asked us to make a few drawings.
Dad found a few more trains at the local flea market that he took apart and rebuilt so we could run them. Here is the body of an FS Italian electric train. We started to build some layouts that other fans of Märklin trains call a "carpetbahn". A few friendly train races and some smiling faces with smiling trains!
We decided to call our little train world the "Mädchenbahn", which means 'Girl's Railway' in German.
Something about watching the trains close up makes me feel calm, says Maddy.
It soon becomes a spaghetti network on the floor.... this is when we started to think about building something more permanent... You can see the next chapter here. Contact us about further information and you can ask about the T-shirts we sell to help fund our projects and education. We can send you images of our T-shirts, and other items... If you are in the Montreal area, we can invite you to our next showing. From the Girls and Daddy at the Mädchenbahn.... the Girl's Railway... Chemin des Filles...
